Rothy’s Mary Janes make my inner pre-teen leap for joy

In the last year, Rothy’s has expanded the styles it offers to include a boot, The Chelsea, and now the Mary Jane.

Following the trends we have seen on the spring runways, the new Rothy’s Mary Janes are an updated twist on a classic style. I don’t know about you, but I loved Mary Jane shoes growing up. I just thought they were the cutest thing ever (I thought the school girl vibe, like actual school girl, not sexy Britney, was the best look ever. I was a giant nerd, sue me). So far, 2020 fashion week has been filled with Mary Janes of all kinds, from stiletto heeled versions, to chunky block heels and most recently, mules. WhoWhatWear, Marie Claire, and Cosmo have all put Mary Jane styles on their list this season.

Of course, the classic Mary Jane flat is still in, and the Rothy’s version plays off that look, but updates it with a pointed toe and a bow instead of the usual strap. I love that Rothy’s took its most popular silhouette and made it even more on trend with strategic updates. A rounded vamp gives the foot a flattering look and goes nicely with the flirty bow.

I decided to try the Rothy’s Mary Jane’s in black because I literally owned no black shoes except heels. I’ve always gravitated towards bright colored or printed Rothy’s, and my one sort of black pair was sold last month when someone in a Facebook group posted that they were desperately looking for them.

The first thing I noticed was that Rothy’s gave the Mary Jane a much thicker insole than the normal points. The insole feels more like the rounded flats and is super cushiony, a major win in my book!! I also loved how secure my foot felt with the bow tied around, and I could easily get the shoes on and off without having to untie the bow.

I got my normal points size in the Mary Jane’s. They are a smidge looser than some of my points, but with the bow, they stay securely on my foot and I wouldn’t want to go smaller for fear that my feet would expand in the heat and they would be too small (for more on Rothy’s sizing, read this post).

Today I wore the black Mary Jane’s teaching all day and I couldn’t stop looking down at my feet. They’re just so freaking cute, and comfy! I think the basic black will be fun to style with so many different outfits, but today I kept it pretty basic because #mondays. I’ve seen quite a few posts in the Rothy’s Facebook groups that women are playing with different ways of tying the bows, and also sewing the bows so that they won’t have to ever worry about them coming undone. I think I might sew mine as well, just to make sure I can keep the tie I like all the time.

Rothy’s really knocked it out of the park with this new style. My only complaint is that they gave them the vegan leather soles instead of their normal rubber. I don’t think it affects the wear at all, I just like how the rubber stays looking really clean, whereas you can tell you have walked on the vegan leather. Then again, no one is looking at the soles of my shoes but me, haha!
